Spring is certainly in the air around the West Central Park Neighborhood Center! The flowers are blooming, the bees are buzzing, Sunday work parties are back in full swing, and our favorite local market opens for the season tonight!

Alley Improvements

With the alley vacation approved with the City of Olympia, we’ve started on our next project improving the alley and installing more Tru-Grid. The reconstruction of the Park alley will be in phases, with phase one completed this past weekend thanks to the wonderful park volunteers who came out for the Sunday work party! Phase two will be completed when the Parkside Cafe and Food Court are built. The benefit of this sectional reconstruction will be a much improved access to the West Central Park and the West Olympia Farmers’ Market when it needs it.

Since the new Tru-Grid will be connected to the existing parking area, there will be a smooth and continuous ADA accessible lane that will run straight from the parking lot at Phoebe’s Pastry Cafe to the event pad at the Park. Tackling the remaining the reconstruction will be easier once the Parkside Cafe is complete in November, and after Market season closes for the year and farm vendors no longer need access.

Market Season Begins

Today, Tuesday May 9, is opening day of the West Olympia Farmers’ Market! Come on by the West Central Park between 4pm and 7pm tonight for local produce, baked goods, eggs, pastured meat and poultry, flowers, plant starts, crafts, and more! Come help support local business owner, farmers, and the West Central Park Project!

You can also catch a free show! There will be live music happening for this year’s grand opening. Visit their event page for more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/673108772875327
